Greece: Naxos and Paros
Looking for hotel recommendations in Naxos and Paros. We like to be close to action vs very secluded. Also, information about the best time to book ferries. We'd like to try to do the trip reservations ourselves to save some money and/or use our points. Hotel Senia and Parilio Hotel in Paros was recommended. Are they worth the money? Also, on Naxos some of the hotels are already booked so suggestions recommended. I believe this group suggested staying near Ag. Giorgios. What hotels?

Best time to book ferries is when you get to Greece. You don’t say when you will be there, though, and there are certain times where booking in advance is advisable. Ferries are very busy around Greek Orthodox Easter, May 5th in 2024. Ferries are also busy in August when many Europeans take their holidays.
In well over 20 trips to the Greek Islands I’ve only booked a ferry in advance once, and that proved unnecessary. The only time I wished I had booked earlier was a ferry from Paros to Athens the first weekend in September when families were returning home after their August holidays. Probably the best strategy is to book the first ferry about a month in advance, and book the rest from local ticket agents on the islands. That’s assuming the first ferry is the one from Piraeus to Paros or Naxos. You don’t need to book the ferry between Paros and Naxos, it is never full.
If you are flying to the first island you need to book your flights well in advance, the sooner the better. Same goes if you plan to fly from the islands back to Athens. Paros and Naxos both have airports. The Paros Airport is larger, with ATR-72 aircraft from Olympic Air (Aegean Airlines) and Sky Express. Naxos Airport has a very short runway, and the same two airlines use the smaller ATR-42. Naxos Airport has takeoff weight restrictions preventing the airlines to fill all their seats on flights back to Athens.

Dates please! including length of your trip! (Note - only count arrival day if your plane lands before noon, and then only 1/2 day -- and departure day not at all. Thus when you say 10 days including travel to/from... you really mean 8.5 days. AND even that will require domestic flight arrival day afternoon to your first island (since u must be back in Athens before homebound flight). ANd those afternoon flilghts book up EARLY. If they're already full, you'll have to take a ferry at 5 pm or so, arriving PAROS 9:45 or NAXOS 10:45... so whole 1st day is lost.
As for using your "points" lucky you to have them, many of us do not -- but early actions have best results... you may have problems if looking at High Season (July-August). Please if you want best advice, don't be vague - exact dates desired for each island, and preferred budget range per night for lodgings. We're experienced, but we are not mind-readers, and we want to avoid time/effort on suggestions that prove irrelevant.

I will be arriving to Athens morning of 8/31at 10am and departing 10:30am on 9/12 from Athens. Athens (2 nights), Paros (3 nights), Naxos (3 nights) Santorini (3 nights) and Athens the last afternoon and then home the next day. Flying from Santorini to Athens to get back. Ferry to Paros from Athens.

Naxos to Paros vs Paros to Naxos
Hi again. It seems that my issue for booked hotels are the dates. But, if I switch the itinerary so that I go Athens, Ferry to Naxos, Ferry to Paros, Ferry to Santorini fly back to Athens --- I know it's out of order, but is it a big deal? I can get the recommended hotels if I make the switch. Thanks!

No big deal to change the order. Its only an hour by ferry from Naxos to Paros, and only an extra hour from Paros to Santorini. If it gets you the hotels you want on each island then its worth it IMO.
SG, your replies are hard to follow when you dont identify who you are replying to.

SGTravels, further to what I wrote in #10, recommend you use Blue Star Ferries when you move from Naxos to Paros, and from Paros to Santorini, buy economy tickets, and spend your time on the open deck. You wont have reserved seats, but the fare is much cheaper than high speed ferries and there isnt much difference in time with such short journeys. There is non-reserved seating on the open deck, but Id rather spend my time at the rail looking at the scenery and taking photos.
Scenery gets interesting after Paros, as you travel through the strait between Paros and Naxos, pass near several small islands, and the ferry enters the Santorini caldera. Blue Star passes through the caldera on its way to the port, while highspeeds go around the island of Thirassia.

Thank you Heimdell. Unfortunately, the order doesn't matter now because hotels recommended are filled for all days. Having said that, I will go to Hotel Galaxy in Naxos for now since that option is available on the dates needed (right now!). Will book today.
And yes, great idea on the deck and enjoying the scenery.
